The Humanities Visualization Space (HVS) (433 LAAH) is available to faculty, students, and staff at Texas A&M University as well as researchers outside the university for humanities teaching and research.   See below for information on using the HVS for demonstrations, events, teaching, and research.  To confirm the availability of the HVS go to the HVS Calendar, link below.

Demonstration

Demonstrations, varying in length from 20-45 minutes, can be scheduled for classes, departments, etc. presenting the basic features and resources available in the HVS.

To request a HVS Demo, review the HVS Usage Guidelines and submit the HVS Demonstration Request form with the following information:

  • Name/Title (Requester):
  • Email:
  • Department:
  • Day and Time Preference(s) (subject to CoDHR staff availability):
  • Demo Length:
  • Content (What kind of demo, e.g., basic features or specific applications, describe):
  • Audience: (Class or other group, describe):
  • Class/Group size (room accommodates 20-25 people):

Requests for demos should be made at least two (2) weeks in advance.  A confirmation will be sent within five (5) days.  See HVS Calendar below for availability.

Event

The HVS is available for workshops, guest speakers, and other events utilizing the interactive visualization space.

To schedule an event review the HVS Usage Guidelines and submit the HVS Event Request with the following information:

  1. Name/Title (Requester):
  2. Email:
  3. Department:
  4. Day and Time Preference(s):
  5. Event Type (title and description of event, and how the event benefits digital humanities research):
  6. Audience (Class or other group, describe):
  7. Class/Group size (room accommodates 20-25 people):

 Requests for an event should be made at least four (4) weeks in advance.  A confirmation will be sent within five (5) days.   See HVS Calendar below for availability.

Teaching

Faculty and instructors are invited to use the interactive visualization space for special class lectures, class projects, or discussion periods that are primarily focused on the humanities.

  • Review HVS Usage Guidelines.
  • Review Hardware and Software available.
  • The HVS cannot be scheduled as the regular classroom meeting site. The instructor must maintain an official classroom outside the HVS.
  • A HVS orientation session may be necessary before access is granted.
  • Please request reservations at least two (2) weeks in advance. See HVS calendar below for availability.
  • HVS accommodates up to 20-25 people.
  • Individual student assignments and projects should be scheduled using the HVS Research Request form, see below for research guidelines.
  • CoDHR staff will be available to open the room and provide basic support Monday through Friday during normal office hours.

Research

Researchers, faculty, staff, and students, are invited to conduct humanities research in the HVS.

  • Review HVS Usage Guidelines.
  • Review Hardware and Software available.
  • Non-faculty requests must have a TAMU faculty sponsor.
  • A HVS orientation session may be necessary before access is granted.
  • As with any research project, it is the responsibility of the researcher to ensure they have acquired the appropriate approvals, e.g., IRB approval, before using the HVS. Contact CoDHR before obtaining those approvals to ensure we can accommodate your project.
  • Please request reservations at least two (2) weeks in advance. See calendar below for HVS availability.
  • CoDHR staff will be available to open the room and provide basic support Monday through Friday during normal office hours.

To use the HVS for research, please fill out and submit the HVS Research Request form.
